Thousands in region could benefit from cheaper phone and internet bills.

People across Dumfries and Galloway on social security benefits could be paying too much for their broadband and mobile service according to Dumfries and Galloway Citizens Advice Bureau (D&G CAS).

D&G CAS has launched a new campaign to raise awareness about special packages offered to by most major providers which could save eligible customers an average of £200 per year.

Christine Sinclair, operations manager, commented, “Internet access is now essential for everyone, allowing us to manage basic tasks such as banking, applying for jobs and housing, claiming benefits and just keeping in touch.

“However, we know that such access can be limited where people are struggling to meet broadband or mobile phone charges on top of all their other household bills with the rising cost of living.

“We urge anyone on benefits to check with their provider to see if they offer discounted packages known as ‘social tariffs’. Otherwise switching to another provider that does is easy and costs nothing. The range of qualifying benefits varies from provider to provider but people can check what is on offer on the campaigns section of our website.”
