Citizens Advice makes massive gains for local people
6th November 2025
The newly released Annual Report for Dumfries and Galloway Citizens Advice Service (D&G CAS) shows that in 2024-25, they helped over eight thousand clients, putting £9.8 million back into clients’ pockets and into the local economy.
“£9.8 million is a huge figure that is a testament to the value our service brings to the region, but it is just the tip of the iceberg,” said D&G CAS Chief Executive Phil Stewart. “The human impact of our service is equally important. It means food in bellies, warm clothes, roofs over heads and an ability to put the heating on. Our Service provides peace of mind in knowing there is always a helping hand for those facing tough times.”
“We are contactable in so many ways, we have bureaux in Dumfries, Stranraer and Annan, alongside a raft of outreach services embedded into communities throughout the region. We have advisers within partner organisations such as the Cancer Information Centre, Apex Foodbanks, Dumfries Carers Centre, GP Surgeries and the Dumfries Veterans Garden among others. We are contactable by telephone, e mail and through our website. Our service is a lifeline for many, especially in rural communities where we are aware of cases where we have actually saved lives.”
“The value our service brings to the region goes beyond advice, we also boost employability via training and helps to build stronger communities. Research by the University of Bath shows that every £1 invested into a local Citizens Advice Service, delivers a return of up to £50 in social and economic value for the region. Often saving more costly interventions by way of solving problems before they spiral out of control.”
Marsali Caig, Chair of the D&G CAS Board said, “Dumfries and Galloway continues to grapple with deep-rooted challenges that touch every corner of our community. Our dedicated staff and volunteers are the heart of our service. Their expertise grows stronger each year and their impact is immeasurable. Together, we remain steadfast in our mission to support the people of Dumfries and Galloway—especially when they need us most.”
