Our critical advice service is under threat
24th October 2025
Named in the current D&G Council budget consultation, Dumfries and Galloway Citizens Advice Service (D&G CAS) is facing the possibility of losing all of its funding from Dumfries and Galloway Council. The result of such a cut would be to effectively end the service.
The Citizens Advice Service is a trusted organisation, with a reputation for transforming lives. Embedded into communities across the entire region, many of them in remote rural locations, offering hope to people at their lowest ebb. We offer free advice on a range of issues, including benefits, debt, energy advice, homelessness prevention and much more.
We have three bureaux, eleven outreach clinics in sixteen locations, as well as advisers embedded into vital services such as foodbanks, Dumfries Carers Centre, GP surgeries and the Cancer Clinic at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary.
We provide a lifeline for many in what is mostly a rural region, saving approximately £50* for every £1 invested into our service by way of prevention via early intervention.
How you can help us:
- Complete the D&G Council consultation survey here and tell the council how much you value our service.
 - Sign our petition here.
 - Write to your councillors, MP and MSP (you can use the templates below if you wish, downloadable in both Word and PDF file formats)

Make your voice heard and help us to protect our lifeline services for the people of Dumfries and Galloway.
