MP visits Stranraer Bureau

19th September 2024

John Cooper MP with D&G CAS staff Georgia Walker, Julia Murchie, Phil Stewart (Chief Executive), Dan Baillie (Bureau Manager) and Elaine Forrest.

Recently elected MP for Dumfries and Galloway, John Cooper visited the Stranraer Bureau of Dumfries and Galloway Citizens Advice Service (D&G CAS) in Burns House on Wednesday, to meet with staff to find out more about the service they deliver.

Phil Stewart, D&G CAS Chief Executive said, “We appreciate Mr Cooper taking the time to come and see us and find out more about the vital work we do, helping those in need and especially the most vulnerable. He was interested to hear about the demands of the service, the importance of funding, partnership working, our values, vision and plans for growth. He showed a keen interest in rural poverty and the rural premium that affects a vast majority of our communities.”

John Cooper said of his visit, “In a complex world, it is important that impartial advice is available for those who need guidance. Rural deprivation is a real challenge and having CAB’s services available across Dumfries & Galloway is an important safety net.

“Staff and volunteers alike do an excellent job, and I commend them. I would also encourage anyone with spare time seeking to put something back into our community to consider CAB as an opportunity to volunteer with an organisation making a genuine contribution to people’s lives.”

“It is encouraging that John understands our commitment to deliver our services in the right place, at the right time and in the right way,” said Bureau Manager Dan Baillie.
