Time running out to apply for heating oil grant
15th September 2026
The Scottish Government is offering financial support to those who are struggling to meet fuel bills for domestic heating oil and liquid petroleum gas |(LPG).
The £300 grant is an emergency response to the hike in oil prices arising from the conflict in the Middle East. From 1 April, people can apply if they ordered fuel and not yet paid for it or about to order fuel.
Dumfries and Galloway Citizens Advice Service is urging homeowners to apply as soon as possible for the grant as the scheme ends on the 30th September.
Most people on state benefits will qualify for the grant but the scheme will also consider anyone in financial hardship or debt who also has a health condition or is living in a remote rural area.
Christine Sinclair, Operations Manager for Dumfries and Galloway CAB commented:
“Those eligible can claim more than one £300 grant during the six-month period of the scheme. So even if you have already had a grant you can apply again as long as it was more than 3 months since your first grant.
We are keen to reach those struggling with bills who have not previously heard about this scheme before 30th September. Applications for the grant can be made online at homeheatingadvice.scot or by phoning 0800 048 7413.
If you need support to apply for the grant, we can assist. Pop into your local bureau or outreach or contact us on 0300 303 4321 or e mail us at info@dagcas.org.”
