A beacon of hope for D&G veterans
30th March 2026
Dumfries and Galloway Citizens Advice Service (D&G CAS) have confirmed their commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant, by signing up to support the regions armed forces veterans.
Phil Stewart, Chief Executive of D&G CAS explains, “This covenant demonstrates our commitment to supporting those who have served their country. Veterans and their families are vulnerable if they haven’t been supported well enough through their exit from the forces and we are here to ensure they get everything they are entitled to. It also provides access for them to engage in volunteering roles and potentially for paid employment.”
The Armed Forces Covenant is a national promise, recognising the unique sacrifices made by members of the Armed Forces and their families, including the bereaved, and to ensure they are treated with fairness and respect in all areas of life, including communities, the economy and public services.
Cllr Archie Dryburgh MBE, Armed Forces Champion for Dumfries and Galloway Council, is delighted D&G CAS have signed the covenant, “It means that the many veterans across Dumfries and Galloway will not face discrimination, but be treated fairly when applying for jobs and seeking advice at D&G CAS, who also offer retraining opportunities through volunteering.”
“Whilst there are thousands of veterans’ charities out there,” said Training Officer, Katy Caie, “as a veteran myself I know it can be difficult to know who to approach. Citizens Advice is an independent service and being part of the Armed Forces Covenant means veterans can come to us for impartial, confidential and free advice. We can direct them to the right avenues for help, both locally and nationally. We are a beacon of hope for all ex-services personnel.”
