Lorna was brought up in Glasgow, where she completed general nursing and midwifery training. She nursed in the Queen Mother’s Hospital for 12 years, and went on to the Sultan of Oman’s Armed Forces Hospital for a further 2 years, helping to set up the maternity facilities there. Lorna came to Dumfries in 1990, and worked at various levels in Cresswell Maternity Hospital.

Lorna then became a full time carer for her ageing mother. She was also politically active as a member of the Scottish National Party. She was elected in Lochar Ward and worked as an SNP Councillor for 5 years. Lorna has served on the Education, Social Work, Police, Fire and Rescue Committees, as well as the Nithsdale Area Committee.

Lorna has a strong interest in the welfare of ordinary people, which is her key motivation for remaining a member of our board.
