Kinship Care and Coronavirus
27th April 2020What is Kinship Care?
All across Dumfries & Galloway, grandparents, aunts, uncles and family friends look after children because their biological parents are unable to do so. People who look after children in these circumstances are known as ‘Kinship Carers’.
Our Kinship Care Adviser, Marion Hamilton is supporting Kinship Carers from home during the Coronavirus outbreak.
You can contact her by email at Marion.Hamilton@dagcas.org or Freephone 0300 303 4321.
During this pandemic Marion is frequently being asked the following question:
Q. “I am a Kinship Carer. The Compulsory Supervision Order for the child I look after, states that she is to have contact with her parents. How can I manage to do this during Lockdown for Coronavirus?”
A. “ If no face to face contact is possible, then you should speak to your social worker and ask for some form of virtual contact using technology. This would only be possible where it can be safely managed.”
